无色透明液体。临界温度290℃，临界压力5. 36MPa。能与乙醇、乙醚、苯、氯仿、丙酮等多种有机溶剂相混溶，溶于约120份水。易燃，其蒸气与空气可形成爆炸性混合物，遇明火、高热能引起燃烧，甚至爆炸，并放出有毒气体。与氧化剂接触发生反应。
